Eagle
…just looking around the eagle took off and flew away.

I’d flown in to Halifax and after two aborted landings we finally gotten on the ground. It was two days of making presentations and creating videos to be shown to all of the employees of Maritime Telegraph and Telephone and flying high myself with some great people and I figured I’d take a day to myself to unwind before moving on and someone told me that Alexander Graham Bell, the gent who invented the telephone had lived on a lake in Nova Scotia and I picked up a car and a road map and headed out alone.  They had warned me that the home was closed but he gave me the name of the caretaker.  It didn’t seem like that long a trip but my mind was sailing around in all directions after two days of intensive work.  When I arrived at Cape Breton’s Bras d’Or Lake I couldn’t find a soul and so I moseyed around for an hour or so looking at the lake and just getting a real feeling for the area.  Mr. Graham used to fly his own plane on the lake and his inventive mind was always working.  On the big porch at the house overlooking the awesome lake there were a few chairs and one was a rocking chair and so I sat down and just imagined that Alexander Graham Bell was there sitting with me.  I might have dosed off a bit it was all so relaxing and then I opened my eyes and looked up at the sky and saw an eagle flying very low.. I found it difficult to believe it was happening but that eagle soared down and landed right near my chair.  I just sort of sat there dumbfounded by its beauty and after a moment or so just looking around the eagle took off and flew away.

Ever since then I have been hooked on eagles. I collect eagles all sorts, big brass ones, small ones carved by artists in Alaska. I must have over a hundred now and some fancy bracelets, a ring. I love eagles.

I saw hundreds of them in Alaska when I visited there to make presentations but the experience was not near as exciting as that day I visited Nova Scotia.

A friend, a fellow song writer, visited me yesterday and he made a comment on how many eagles I had in my big office and up in my music room. Instantly my mind soared off to that rocking chair and that eagle landing at my feet that wonderful day.

Yes, I do have memories. Some precious memories and they keep me warm on nippy days.
