Sometimes it is a small world. Jean and I were getting our recommended weekly fish at a Seafood Restaurant in Durham and a gent sitting across the way smiled, got up and came walking over to our table. “Happy New Year!” he said and we started us up a good ole conversation. As we were leaving we stopped by his table. I asked how he got to be so good with words and he confessed that he used to be in sales. Then he mentioned Kirby Vacuum Machines and I said “Zig Ziglar!” He brightened and said to his lady, “I was telling her about Zig just the other day. Zig did some training and turned a lot of us into sales people.” I said that’s funny, I was thinking about Zig just yesterday. I was recalling the time I spoke for about a thousand professional speakers at a meeting of the National Speakers Association in California. When I finished, Zig came ‘a dodging through a mess of people right on up to me, shook my hand, embraced me and said right into my ear, “Art, ya done good.” Zig was #1 in my book and I was thrilled. Those words still ring in my ears. Some years later when I took to song writing, my musical partner and I put together a little recording of those words. “Ya done good!” I sang a few choruses there in the restaurant as I danced a little. In fact I danced right out of that wonderful fish place right on out to my car. Happy New Year Everybody. What a wonderful way to begin. [Listen to the “Ya done good” song on Art’s Website]
