More Happiness

Greatness

God, how the world needs a good shot of happiness and positive thinking right now, this minute, if not sooner.  Enough gloom. Let’s think about sunshine and happiness and smiling too. Let’s think about that greatness that is in you. Really, In high school, in my junior year, my English teacher told me he believed that when we were born we were born with greatness in us. He said that every one of us has a special talent but we must figure out what our talent is and we must cultivate it and hone it and somehow find a way to put our special talent to work for the good of all humankind. If all of us did this  then this could become a world full of love and peace, happiness and understanding.  He read my  writing and encouraged me.  I was named “Staff Poet” contributing my feeble efforts to The Cub, our high school paper. That was in 1945.  We are still trying to figure out what my talent was.

Way back in the early seventies I became known as “The Wizard of Pos.” I had written a book titled “The Three Robots” and Pos was our happy, successful, little girl Robot.. My three robots sang this song with children, their teachers and parents. It went, “We’re happy, we’re healthy, we are somebody, not a sad nobody, we are somebody, and we wear a smile just to let the whole world know that this somebody’s happy inside.”

I guess you could say that my mission in life was to convince everyone in every audience that they had greatness in them.  I became a “professional speaker” in 1970. That is 50 years ago.

I guess that is still my mission.  I learned along the way that talents demand daily care and feeding.  They need you to provide passion and energy and an endless search for improvement. When I spoke on Forever Learning at East Carolina University I witnessed that “Forever Learning” is a vital ingredient for maintaining and improving one’s talent.

What is your talent?  Have you discovered it?  Have you shared it with others?  There is greatness in you.  I mean you!

Thanks, I needed that. Who knows?  Maybe we both needed that.
