Mayberry Days

Mayberry Days with a young fan
Mayberry Days with a young fan

That was the weekend that was and I doubt that I will ever forget it. With my host, Dan Hornak, I visited the Mayberry festival held at Mt. Airy, N.C.  and I shook hundreds and hands and posed for so many pictures that my upper lip was numb from all that smiling.  I had the great honor of riding in the parade and the sign in our luxury vehicle said, “Almost Andy, Art Fettig  Close enough for most.” I’d estimate that about 30% of the people we talked with still believe that I am Andy Griffith and no matter how many times I told when them I wasn’t Andy the more they believed I was.

I met several Barneys, Floyd the barber, a sweet, sweet Aunt Bee, Goober, Gomer and I sat next to a very sober Otis, played by Bill Branaham, Over at The Andy Griffith Playhouse I met a number of veterans, either look alike’s or actual members of the case from some shows.  I met a red head Opi and the Darling Boys and so many, many others. Man those people were wonderful to me.  I just can’t get over their reactions to me saying that my resemblance to Andy was uncanny. I met with David Browning, a true professional who MC’s the two shows that I had a tiny part in and  he is a master.  He remarked to the audience that when he first arrived and walked into the Theatre and saw me he said to himself, “Well, Andy has decided to come after all.”  I did about five minutes of comedy at each show and  the audiences were fantastic.

As I was driving home Saturday night I had to pinch myself.  I just found it hard to believe that I was lucky enough to have such a wonderful experience.  Truly I was in ham heaven.

Say Something Good

Mt. Airy, North Carolina.  To me it is now just a little bit of heaven.  Gosh those local folks went all out to make their festival a wonderful experience for everyone who attended.  May God bless those folks and all of the people in our wonderful land and may He keep our troops from harms way.

Points To Ponder

The beginning of wisdom is found in doubting; by doubting we come to the question, and by seeking we may come upon the truth. Pierre Abelard

A Little Humor

I overheard two old fellows talking at the Playhouse and the one said, “Charlie, I see you brought your wife.” And Charlie said, “Yeah, twice the expense and half the fun.” Then Charlie said, “Willie, I see you brought your wife too.” And Willie said, “I’d rather bring her than kiss her goodbye.”

I think knowing what you cannot do is more important than knowing what you can. Lucille Ball
