Just a Simple Smile

I pulled into a newly opened gas station and was greeted with a sign that read “Courteous and efficient self-service.” I smiled at myself, said to myself, “Have a nice day!” and got on with it. I’ve been noticing just recently how much Courtesy and efficient service I have been receiving when I smile across the counter at stores, restaurants and such and giving a friendly greeting. The smile is often contagious. I’m just learning to try to put myself in the place of the server. Often they are tired, haven’t had a break for too long, they are tired of standing on their feet for so long and often the customers are short tempered and anxious to get back to their cars. Just a nod and a smile will often do it but I’m learning that more and more in this automated world people do better when they get a friendly smile to begin with.
