The Outer Banks of North Carolina

We just returned from four days of exploring the Outer Banks. After visiting Mateo and although it is off season and there was no show at The Lost Colony Amphitheater,  I walked onstage and pretended for just an instant that I was a star. We visited the beautiful Elizabethan Gardens and moved on down the beach to the Wanchese Seafood Village and after a day we moved on over to Hatteras Island and spend two wonderful days exploring that entire area. At the  Days Inn Suites we had a fantastic  ocean front suite and my wife, Jean, soaked up that salt air and then captured an awesome sunrise with her camera. We spent some enlightening time at the Wright Brothers Memorial  and we drove along the coast and took a really relaxing ferry ride over to Ocracoke Island. Most folks move about the island on bicycles or scooters and the laid back way of life is infectious. We tarried for just one night and then took another ferry from Ocracoke to Swan Quarter. I really enjoyed those ferry rides.Over the years I have taken some wonderful ocean cruises at many parts of the world but that two and a half hour cruise to the mainland at Swan Quarter was just about right for me.

If you haven’t visited the Outer Banks you just haven’t seen much of the wonder of North Carolina.  May God bless America and keep our troops from harm.
