Tomorrow morning I will be wearing shorts to the V.A Hospital. I’ve never worn summer shorts in my life. Over the years I have purchased three pairs of summer shorts but I have never worn them. In my youth I had skinny legs with knobby knees and looked really silly in them but with aging my legs no longer look silly. Now it is the rest of my body that looks silly.
Tomorrow’s appointment is with a lady dermatologist and I want her to take a look at a little mole on my right thigh. It’s probably nothing but it is best to check out that variety of tags and moles and red bug bites and bumps that keep appearing on this tired old body. I was thinking, “How can I show her my thigh?” Then I remembered those shorts that have been sitting in my bottom drawer for so many years. Isn’t it great how ingenious we sometimes get when we are looking for a solution to a problem? So now, if you see me going into the V.A. Hospital tomorrow morning wearing shorts, you will know why.
