I have been sitting here this morning asking myself why I have done some things in my lifetime? “Why did I write songs?, for instance. I started examining a booklet I have put together titled A Gathering. It contains the lyrics of nearly all of the songs I have written that have been recorded. It also contains a brief explanation of what I was thinking that triggered each song. A song like my “Goodbye Yokohama, Hello Frisco” Is easy to explain. We were coming home from Korea and Japan and I was in a special service group putting on a show for the troops. However one song titled “I Swear My Ex Has Put A Hex On You” I refuse to explain. Use your imagination on that one.
My favorite unquestionably is “Bein’ Together.” I wrote this one for my wife, Jean. It goes, “Bein’ together, bein’ together, through thick and through thin, and through all kinds of weather. Bein’ together, bein’ together. We’re just stuck with each other, forever and ever.”
So why have I written songs? Because they appeared to me, they came into my mind and I had discovered a way to capture them. I had to. I just had to. Good or bad I just had to share them and what a joy it was
I had no idea you were a percussionist. What fun those two special little ones must have had!
