30,000 Words

Desk Drawer
I was cleaning out a desk drawer…

I was cleaning out a desk drawer the other day and found a very little book titled Pocket Rhyming Dictionary.  Over 30,000 words, Eee Gads!

A couple of decades ago I wrote a song we titled “Have a Good Life.” These were he lines:

Lately I’ve noticed that you’ve been awfully tense
And the things that you’re saying don’t make a lot of sense
I’ve got a feeling that you’d like to put your brand on me
An omen that my freedom is in jeopardy.
And then came the chorus, “Have a good life because I’m movin’ on… “

Why with this little rhyming book I might have written a hundred variations of that verse.  The possibilities are endless. This was back in the days when I was a widower or a bachelor or whatever… Single.

Now with that little Rhyme book my relationship with that lady might have gone in a whole different direction. I was forced to write that song just using the words that were rattling around in my head at the time.

About cleaning out the desk drawer. It was a failure. After getting everything out of the drawer and doing a mental inventory I then found it impossible to get everything back into the drawer. In fact I have enough stuff left over to fill another desk drawer which I do not have. I also have these 30,000 words to deal with.
